his fascinating life story. A Vermont native,
raised as a Methodist, he converted to
Catholicism while in the Army as a 1st
lieutenant being trained in Bavaria for his
Counter-Intelligence assignment in West
Berlin.
He returned to the US and entered the seminary to
study for the priesthood. During that time,
his spiritual mentor, Maria von Trapp was
instrumental in providing support and
encouragement.
After being ordained a Catholic priest, his
ministry included serving as a parish priest
in Vermont, then as a High School Chaplain in
Montreal for 12 years. He rejoined the Army as
a chaplain with the rank of captain at the age
of 50 serving in Germany for several years. He
saw duty in the First Gulf War, “Desert
Storm”, which resulted in physical and
emotional scars.
He retired from the Army and served as a Veteran’s
Administration official for several years.
Now Senior Priest in Residence at Saint Mary
Parish, Chelmsford, Massachusetts, he has
provided this author with much wonderful
material and was instrumental in developing
this biography.
